Do I Need to Become A PMI® Member to Maintain My Credentials?
There is a common misconception that you must be a PMI® member to claim PMP® PDUs and if you are a non-member, you cannot maintain your credentials as there is no way for you to claim PDUs. This article will draw out this hypothesis.
As a member, you pay $109 annually for PMI® events, products and networking opportunities. For an additional $10, you gain access to Communities of Practice, or you can contribute any amount to support the PMI® Foundation. In case you are not a PMI® member, you can save that amount of money in exchange for the services offered. In their 2023 research, PMI® found that the number of credential holders, totaling 1.4 million, was twice the number of PMI® members, which stood at 700,000.
In fact, the remaining 700,000 non PMI® member realize they do not need to become a PMI® member to maintain their credentials. The question is whether you can maintain your credentials as a non-member. The key tomaintaining or renewing your certificates is a free account, not a paid membership. In other words, you don’t need to pay for the membership to renew your certifications.
Plus, as a non-member, you can have other ways to earn and claim PDUs in addition to PMI® events. For example, if you enroll in an online course, like 60 PDUs Bundle, you can earn 60 PDUs for your PMP® renewal with a more budget-friendly fee. The point is that you can claim PDUs as a non-member to renew your certification.
