Should I Use Free PDUs To Renew My PMP® Certificate?
Yes, you should. It’s free. Why not?
However, it would help if you considered the following things when finding free PDUs:
1. The PDU Claim Code
What is PDU Claim Code? PDU Claim Code is a code that PMI® assigns to a particular training that was registered with PMI®. Nowadays, you can find free PDUs on the internet, and you are highly recommended to choose the free PDUs with PDU Claim Code; otherwise, you need to prepare evidence to prove how you earned the free PDUs. PMI® will approve all PDUs with PDU Claim Code automatically. However, PMI® may request you provide proof of free PDUs without a PDU Claim Code.
2. The PMI® Talent Triangle
What is the PMI® Talent Triangle? It is the ideal skillset comprised of technical, leadership, and strategic and business management expertise. To renew the PMP® certificate, you need to earn at least 8 PDUs in Technical Project Management, 8 PDUs in Leadership, and 8 PDUs in Strategic and Business Management. Therefore, you need to verify the PMI® Talent Triangle of your earned PDUs.
3. The mandatory requirement of Education PDUs
What is an Education PDU? PMI® classifies PDUs into two different categories: Education and Giving Back. While there is no compulsory requirement of Giving Back PDUs when you renew the PMP® certificate, PMI® requests that all PMPs earn at least 35 Education PDUs every 3-year cycle. It’s beneficial to check if PDUs qualify for Education PDU.
IMT-PM, PMI® Authorized Training Partner (Premier tier) provides a 60 PDUs Bundle to help PMP® holders renew certificates. The 60 PDUs Bundle satisfies all the requirements from PMI®, and PMI® will automatically approve as soon as you claim on PMI® CCRS.
